Cockroaches. Madagascar hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa), American cockroach

Cockroaches spread germs, exacerbate allergies, transport disease and destroy food. They leave trails of feces which contaminate more food than they actually eat. Cockroaches enter buildings through small cracks and crevices, vents and pipes, and in grocery bags or cardboard boxes. They are an unsanitary nuisance that must be controlled in order to ensure safety around your home or workplace.

American Cockroach - American cockroaches are sometimes found in homes, though they are commonly found in restaurants, grocery stores, and bakeries where food is prepared. American cockroaches typically forage for food in basements and ground floors of a building unless suitable conditions exist in higher locations. Sewers and drain lines help this large roach invade new areas.

German Cockroach - The German cockroach is the most common indoor cockroach species in California. It prefers a warm, humid atmosphere. Generally, German cockroaches inhabit kitchens and bathrooms where they are found near plumbing fixtures, in cracks or crevices in cupboards, under drawers and around kitchen sinks. These cockroaches often cluster together in favorable hiding areas, sometimes in great numbers. When severe infestations occur, German cockroaches may spread to other areas.

Oriental Cockroaches - Oriental cockroaches prefers dark, damp places. Commonly called a water bug, it is typically found in damp basements, cellars, crawl spaces, and sewers. It may also be found near drains, leaky pipes and under refrigerators, sinks, washing machines and floors. This cockroach can tolerate cool environments and has been found to survive freezing temperatures. This cockroach is known to come indoors when its natural environment is disturbed, such as a change in the seasons, excess rainfall, or lawn mowing. It feeds on all types of garbage and other organic material. An Oriental cockroach produces a strong odor and is considered one of the dirtiest of all cockroaches.

Before Southland's Menifee Valley termite and pest control sends a technician to your home, you must prepare your kitchen and bathroom areas for service. See our Cockroach Prep sheet here. This means, all cabinets, drawers and other storage areas in your kitchen and bathrooms must be fully cleaned and all items removed. This is very important because if it is not done, the service will not be performed. Once your kitchen and bathrooms have been prepared, the technician will inspect your property to determine the source of the problem. An insect growth regulator (I.G.R) will then be applied to prevent the cockroaches from breeding further. Bait and other low impact chemical treatments will also be applied at that time. A second visit is included with this treatment and will be scheduled 10-15 days from first treatment to eliminate any eggs that may be hatching to fully control the problem. At this service, bait will be applied so that the remaining roaches will destroy the nest upon contact. If possible, Menifee Valley Termite and Pest Control may use a heat treatment instead of the typical low impact chemical treatment.
